Review after giving it a 2nd chance

The first time I read this I ended up dropping it after reading chapter 11. I just couldn’t get past how poorly the Esper treated the Guide. It was just too much for me. But, coming back and reading it again, giving it a second chance. The plot is actually really interesting and their relationship continues to improve (which is always good). So, I’m glad I came back and tried it again. I now can’t wait to see what happens when The Center finds our Guide living it up with an Esper.

Rape, Assault

And while I said all that, of course, rape and assault are inexcusable and I will never forgive the Esper for doing such things, but I also enjoyed the story and that’s all the matters with something such as reading fantasy. It’s all made up anyways. You can love a story, plot, character, manga, etc. while also hating a specific character or the way he acted. So, I really don’t understand all the hate on the manga as a whole. As I think the plot is good, but that’s just my opinion. I also totally understand you not being able to read it because of the beginning also, as that was me once too, or simply just not liking it for whatever reason.

But, let’s not poop on the author for writing such things, as such topics are important to face. Although, it sucks and is inhumane, rape and assault happens (in books, fantasy, and irl) and it’s important to not pretend it doesn’t. And in this specific case, it goes to show how extremely messed up their Guideverse society is, and how their government educated Esper’s, as they clearly didn’t cover such topics like rape and consent. It also shows how much our MC has grown. I mean he went from rape to learning how to properly go on dates. It’s all apart of the plot as a whole. In this case, it’s used to show character development, upon other things. Unlike other BL’s I’ve seen where it’s fully fetishized.

I just hope their relationship ends well and doesn’t spiral back into such horrible situations.
