1) _The main character, "real-world" novelist Byun Sooah (who later transmigrates as "Choi Sehwa"):_---
*She's a " real world" novelist known for only writing novels with bad/sad/tragic endings.
* 'Real world' Byun Sooah was born a child genius and a piano prodigy, whose mother had been disowned by her wealthy family for marrying Sooah's dad, a pennyless guy. The pennyless dad later cheated on Sooah's mom and abandoned them. So little Sooah grew up solely with her mother, who raised her abusively while threatening little Sooah into always winning the first place prize in piano competitions, along with always keeping perfect school grades. This was because all of it (Sooah always getting perfect grades and always getting first place) was a new demand by Sooah's rich grandmother, who had established his as an irrevocable condition (when agreeing to help the impoverished daughter and granddaughter, despite the fact that she'd previously disowned them), in exchange for her to keep giving them her financial help.
*Her mother's emotional and psychological abuse (which included threats, verbal abuse, killing of her pets) was the inspiration behind her novels' always tragic endings.
*One day, her main characters curse her to "experience the same life as them", and she gets transmigrated inside the body of "Choi Sehwa", the two-faced, back-stabbing and abusive best friend of "Shin Ahyoung", who is the heroine in her latest, unfinished novel.
*Her role in the "new" storyline: the author, posing as Sehwa, meets a pink-haired blue eyed extra-(side)-character and starts a fake relationship with him as a cover, in order to avoid the attention of the psychotic male leads in the og heroine's (Ahyoung's) harem. However, she and the pink-haired guy gradually end up getting to really know and understand each other, and seem to grow feelings for each other for real. They eventually tell each other lots of stuff, and manage to resist any other characters' attempts to interfere between them (harem male leads included), so it's a given this pink haired guy (Na Minam) might definitely be a strong candidate for endgame as the mc's chosen ML.
2) _The long black haired and purple eyed school beauty, (original) Choi Sewa:_---
*She's the character that the "real world" author, Byun Sooah, transmigrates into.
*She's a hotel tycoon's adopted daughter and is classmates with the original heroine, Shin Ahyoung.
*Before she was adopted, Choi Sehwa was an orphan in the same oprhanage as the og heroine's (Shin Ahyoung) and the two of them were best friends. But it's said that Sehwa's personality allegedly "changed" after she got adopted by a rich family (part of it might be because, as it turns out, her adoptive father is abusive while her adoptive mother is neglectful, and they no longer even get along with each other, while they keep hiding from the world and each other a MOUNTAIN of dirty secrets...)
*Once she and Ahyoung were reunited in high school, Sehwa set her sights romantically on one of their new classmates, who was also Ahyoung's friend. Her crush was Ahyoung's moody "self appointed bodyguard", the sourly school hunk and rich bad boy, Kang Minhyuk, so Sehwa tried to take advantage of her friendship with Ahyoung to make Ahyoung play machtmaker for her (but she only succeeds in making herself look like a stalker, and like Ahyoung's "traitor friend turned bully," in front of him, thus growing to be deeply despised by Minhyuk).
*Her fate in the original story: In the original story, the original Choi Sehwa was supposed to grow to hate Ahyoung after realizing Minhyuk would never care about her (as he only cared for Ahyoung), and she was supposed to try to kill Ahyoung out of jealousy, but only to end up failing and getting killed by the guys in Ahyoung's so-called unwitting "harem", in retaliation.
*Her new role in the "new" storyline: the author Byun Sooah, posing as Sehwa, initially tries for self-preservation by doing the opposite of what the original Sehwa did, which is being nice to Ahyoung, and avoiding the violent Minhyuk along with all the other psychotic male leads in Ahyoung's so-called harem. When the second one doesn't work (and she see s that she keeps getting entangled with the psycho harem members, anyway), she decides to help the psycho harem members solve their traumas and change their fates from the original.
3) _The short haired original heroine, Shin Ahyoung._---
*She's a high school student and the tragic heroine of "real world" author Byun Sooah's latest novel. Author Byun Sooah had originally planned to make Ahyoung die tragically, at the end of the story, but got transmigrated into Sehwa before she ever got to write any of it (and now, Sooah obviously wants to deviate from that storyline while she's in Sehwa's body, in order to stay alive).
*As a young child, Ahyoung used to be in the same orphanage as her best friend Choi Sehwa, before the both of them got adopted. Ahyoung is the adoptive daughter of the white haired female school principal, or school board president... (it's not that clear), Kwon Mihee, who was best friends with Ahyoung's biological mother (and who apparently was in unrequited secret love with Ahyoung's mother). Ahyoung now lives with Kwon Mihee and her blood-related son, Kwon Yul, the white haired boy. Ahyoung and Yul attend the same school where Mihee's the principal or school board president, and they're in the same class as Sehwa and the (other) boys in Ahyoung's unwitting so-called "harem".
*The boys in Ahyoung's "harem", who're Ahyoung and Sehwa's classmates, are four guys in total : Kang Minhyuk (the black haired, yellow eyed rich and sourly school hunk guy, who considers himself Ahyoung's self appointed bodyguard and violently-obsessive protector, and who even hires a private chauffeur to take Ahyoung to and from school), Kwon Yul (the rich boy, white haired model student who is Ahyoung's foster brother and lives with her under the same roof), Kim Minseok (the brown haired, grey eyed shy pushover boy with a secret double personality, who was supposed to grow protective of Ahyoung after she tried to save him from some bullies) and Lim Yohan (the blue haired former piano prodigy, who became a bitter hothead ever since a childhood incident that forced him to quit piano, but from which he was "rescued" by a younger Ahyoung, as a child).
*Ahyoung's fate at the end of the original novel: she was supposed to kill herself due to guilt over Sehwa's death, at the end of the story, because all along she seems to have been hiding secret feelings for Sehwa.
*Ahyoung's role in the "new" storyline: she acts as if she doesn't know that her friend Sehwa's been possessed by someone else, but she's figured out absolutely everything, and now tries to make it look like she's "sending people to harm Sehwa", so as to fool the hidden true villain of the story into thinking that Ahyoung now "hates" the possessed Sehwa, and therefore so that this villain doesn't covertly instigate Sehwa's death, this time around (like he did in the original story).
4)_The pink haired, blue eyed guy, and candidate for final ML, Na Minam:_---
*He's a student in another class who dresses like a delinquent, but has pretty good grades, and is infamous in the whole school for allegedly being a womanizer who always cheats on his (long string of) girlfriends.
*He has naive opinions about love, and though many times he tried to defend himself and deny it whenever he was unfairly accused of cheating, none of his previous girlfriends ever believed him, and they always broke up with him.
*He's an extra / side-character supposed to leave the scene right after the end of the first semester, and he's not part of of the main plot nor part of the original heroine's (Ahyoung's) "harem". Because he's a side-character, the mc offers to be his fake girlfriend in order to help him clean his playboy image (with the secret goal of using him as a cover to convince the prickly Minhyuk that she's no longer interested in him, as well as to keep the other crazy "harem" members' attention away from her).
*Though he's from a rich family, he lives alone with his dog in a big house, because his mom died and his dad's currently out of the country, staying properly in touch with him but (apparently) having recently rebuilt his life by remarrying another woman.
*He's an enthusiastic member of the manga club at school, because ever since he was a child he grew fond of love stories with happy endings, once he noticed those kinds stories would always serve to soothe his mom's heartbreak at the unrequited love she still held for his (absent) father.
*His fate in the original story: he was suppossed to stay out of the main storyline, leaving the story altogether, by the end of the semester.
*His role in the "new" storyline: once he starts fake dating the mc, they find out the truth about his "undeserved" womanizer reputation when the mc gets harassed by his secret stalker who'd started it all as a way to drive her "rivals" away (by spreading fake photos and false rumors in order to anger his girlfriends into breaking up). After the issue with the stalker is solved, he becomes one of the strongest candidates for final endgame ML with the MC, since he becomes one of the peopleto whom the mc reveals the whole truth about her real identity, and about the world inside the novel, and they develop a strong relationship... (despite the fact that they don't know what will happen, or if the mc might at some point be forced to return to her own world, to be able to REALLY fix the story...).
5)_The black haired, yellow eyed guy, Kang Minhyuk:_---
*Minhyuk's the mc's and the original heroine's (Shin Ahyoung's) classmate. He has spent years obsessed with protecting the og heroine, Shin Ahyoung, because Ahyoung looks exactly like his dead mother, who killed herself in front of him. He initially deeply hates the mc ("Choi Sehwa"), because he saw that original Sehwa took advantage of her childhood friendship with Ahyoung to pressure Ahyoung into playing matchmaker for her (with Minhyuk himself), and because he realized that og Sehwa had started to actively stalk him.
*The way his late mother caused his trauma: Until the day she killed herself, Minhyuk's mother had spent years secretly brainwashing little Minhyuk, behind his father's back, into hating his dad and obeying whatever she herself said, by pretending to hurt herself, accusing her son of "failing to protect her" (supposedly, from his dad), whenever little Minhyuk tried to do anything she didn't approve of. She even deliberately made Minhyuk believe it was his fault, too, on the day she killed herself, right in front of him.
*The reason why his mother deliberately traumatized him: Minhyuk's mother had lost the man she truly loved, and had been forced to give away the child she'd had with him, before her family forced her to enter an arranged marriage with Minhyuk's dad. Eventually, Minhyuk finds out that the reason his mother had traumatized him was because she had wanted to make him obsessed with his alleged "failure to save her", in order to guarantee that once her son met her hidden illegitimate child, who looked a lot like her, he would feel completely unable to harm her, and would instead become obsessed with protecting her (in the way he "hadn't been able" to save his mother). That's because his mom knew Minhyuk would one day meet Shin Ahyoung, that same child that his mother had been forced to give away, before him: Ahyoung was his mother's (Minhyuk's mother's) own secretly hidden daughter, that she had given birth to after losing the love of her life and before being forced to marry Minhyuk's dad, and before giving birth to Minhyuh himself (the fact that they are both in the same class now, means they were born super close together, which isn't impossible if Minhyuk was born as a seven-month baby). So, Minyhuk basically finds out that Shin Ayoung, the original heroine that he'd been brainwashed into protecting, has always been his elder illegitimate half sister, whom his mother knew would grow up to look a lot like herself, and whom his mother had been forced to abandon at an oprhanage as a baby, before her own family forced her to marry Minhyuk's dad, and before she gave birth to Minhyuk.
*His fate in the original novel: he was supposed to go on living without learning the truth until after he had already killed Sehwa, in retaliation for Sehwa's attempt to kill Ahyoung.
*His role in the "new" storyline: Once he starts playing bodyguard for Sehwa due to a direct request from Ahyoung, he ends up seeing how she acts differently and is no longer romantically interested in him. He grows attached and eventually discovers that being in her company helps him with his sleep issues as much as Ahyoung's company (alliviating his nightmares about his mother's brainwashing of him as a younger kid, and "curing" his chronic insomnia), so he tries to induce her to break up with her boyfriend and to force her to get engaged to him, in order to monopolize her. However, the white haired guy, Kwon Yul, answers the mc's request of help by sending Minhyuk documents with info about his mother's past, which helps Minhyuk let go of the trauma and apologize to the mc, letting her go.
6) _The blue haired guy, Lim Johan_--:-
*He's Ahyoung and Sehwa's classmate and former piano prodigy, who became a bitter hothead ever since a traumatic incident which forced him to quit the piano, as a child.
*He lives alone with a housekeeper because the rest of his piano-obsessed family left for the States, to concentrate on fostering his older sister's equally genius talent for the piano, after they realized Johan was "a lost cause". While his parents come and go and they keep in contact, Johan hasn't seen his sister in quite a while.
*He and Ahyoung are good friends (even though they're always bickering childishly) ever since his childhood incident, because she was the one who rescued Johan after his alleged best friend from piano class, who was secretly hiding an insane jealousy of Johan's talent, backstabbed Johan and exploited his known fear of ghosts and dark places, by deliberately luring him to a dark place, and locking him alone, inside.
*His fate in the original story: he was supposed to be a harem member further isolating Ahyoung by covertly driving away boys whom he thought were romantically interested in her, using his sarcasm and constant verbal harassing.
*His role in the "new" storyline: He becomes friends with the mc after she risks her life to save his, when both suffer an accident during a field trip. He starts playing the piano again after he discovers the mc also plays, and the two often play together. He secretly falls for her and tries to monopolize her through friendship, growing jealous and objecting to the amount of time the mc spends with her pink-haired boyfriend, so he starts bickering with her boyfriend, and sometimes crossing the line, but feels hurt whenever the mc calls him out on it and tells him off. However, once the mc stands up to Johan's mother, trying to stop her from forcing Johan, against his will, to join the rest of the family in the States (now that they know he's recovered his ability to play the piano), they make up and Johan, feeling reassured of her loyalty, chooses to cherish their friendship, deciding that he doesn't really need to have their bond become 'romantic'.
7) _The light brown haired, grey eyed timid and bullied boy, Kim Minseok:---
*He used to have a twin brother, Minwoo, whose accidental death as a child Minseok still unconsciously blames himself for. Due to this, he unconsciously represses the memories of his twin and tries to act "always timid and kind" like his twin did, repressing his own (more assertive) personality.
*He is violently bullied by some other delinquent students from another class, who hold a deep-seated grudge against him since an incident in middle school, where Minseok gave them permanent injuries while fighting them to stop them from bullying his timid twin brother, Minwoo, and where Minwoo accidentaly died.
*Later on, it is revealed it was Minseok's own father who was brainwashing him into acting like his dead twin, because his father had grown mentally unstable and couldn't accept the twin's death.
*His fate in the original story: he was supposed to grow unhealthily fond of Ahyoung after she got hurt while trying to help him against some bullies, and obsessed with keeping 'unworthy or dangerous people' away from her, to the point that he would seem to "develop a second personality" when secretly dealing with those people, physically torturing them and acting very insane.
*His role in the "new" storyline: After the mc rescues Minseok from being killed by his bullies, he recovers his memories, returns to his original personality, and eventually manages to get his grandfather's help in getting treatment for his father, as well as in moving out fof his father's house (to live on his own). Deeply grateful to the mc, he befriends her and actively strives hard to help her out, protect her and to keep dangers he sees at bay, being the only one of the former "harem" members to do so without ever interfering in the mc's romantic relationship with her pink haired boyfriend. After he sees the mc magically "revive" after deliberately letting a random character attack her, the mc gradually tells him the whole truth about the world of the novel, and he becomes one of the few people she trusts with knowledge about the truth and the whole story.
8) _The white haired, violet eyed guy, Kwon Yul_--:-
*He turns out to be the hidden true villain of the original story.
*He's a model straight A's male student, vice-president of the student council, as well as class monitor and classmate of the same class as the og heroine Shin Ahyoung (who's also his adopted step sister). Unknown to everyone else, his biological father was the son of a top gangster boss, that his mother hated and was forced to marry against her will, and even though he's dead now and Yul only lives with his mother, Yul knows it was his mother who secretly killed his father in a provoked accident (an accident that almost killed Yul as well), so he's still in contact with his grandfather's gangster lackeys, in order to find a way to fully take revenge on his mother, by himself, for what she did to him and his father. Yul's mother suspects this and hates Yul, in turn, and they act like they're both well aware of the secrets the other's hiding, so she's always trying to secretly harm him. While they feign being a "normal" family in front of other people (and in front of Ahyoung, included), when they're alone they treat each other with outright mistrust, spite and thinly veiled hatred.
*Yul is the the only boy in Ahyoung's "harem" who doesn't actually care about Ahyoung. In fact, he secretly hates both his mother and Ahyoung due to his mother's overt blatant favoritism of the adopted daughter (and child of her unrequited love, her deceased best friend), which makes him resent even more his mother's covert hatred of him, in turn (due to him being her hated son with her late gangster's son of a husband, that she secretly murdered, and the vengeful grandchild of a dangerous gangster). So to get revenge on his mother, he keeps living with her and Ahyoung, while always planning how to secretly make life hell for Ahyoung, in order to hurt his mother. Once he senses (correctly) that Ahyoung is secretly inlove with the original Choi Sehwa (whom Ahyoung openly used to treat as a cherished best friend, despite her own romantic feelings, and even despite original Sehwa's constant back-stabbing of her), he plans to make Ahyoung suffer (and through her, get back at his own mother) by harming the person that Ahyoung's secretly inlove with, Sehwa.
*Yul's fate in the original story: in the original, he was supposed to be the hidden true villain, who took revenge against his mother by secretly instigating every single bad thing that happened to both Sehwa and Ahyoung, from the shadows. He secretly and deliberately instigated Sehwa's death in order to hurt Ahyoung, whom he knew was secretly inlove with Sehwa: he did this by covertly encouraging Sehwa's jealousy and growing violence against Ahyoung from the shadows, knowing that this growing violence by her, against Ahyoung, would sooner or later trigger Minhyuk's own violent over protectiveness of Ahyoung (his suicide mother's lookalike) enough to make Minhyuk want to kill Sehwa.
*Yul's role in the "new" storyline: He's one of the first people to realize Sehwa seems to have "turned into someone else", by figuring out Ahyoung no longer treats her the same, and that she and Sehwa have started to drift apart (and no longer act around each other in quite the same way they used to). Getting successfully fooled (by Ahyoung) into believing that Ahyoung now hates the "new (aka 'possessed')" Sehwa, Yul takes pleasure in the two friends' new tension and decides to side with the "new" Sehwa, just to spite Ahyoung. He takes a great liking to the new Sehwa (even knowing she's "possessed") and repeatedly helps her to avoid attacks from random people (that were allegedly sent by Ahyoung) while also keep Minhyuk at bay. New Sehwa (who's author Byun Sooah) returns the favor by using her knowledge of the novel to successfully threaten Yul's mother to leave him alone. However, once he realizes Ahyoung was only pretending to hate the new Sehwa, and he figures out on his own the truth about the world being inside a novel (and about the soul possessing Sehwa being that novel's author) he grows mistrustful and aggressive again, and conflicted by his own feelings for the mc.
Wait tldr: their parents are sht and mentally unstable/traumatized so they double it and give it to their children. That sums it up lmao why is every one of them has a trauma and mentally unstable..na minan is the most sane of them all
