i dont think it was bad that they ended up together, because this story isnt supposed to tell you that everything is going to be alright. Based on how iinterpret it, it tells you that before you achieve that "happy end" you have to go through much turbulence for it. To strive for it, to grieve and to love. THAT is what both annette and heign went through. For crying out loud they practically went to war together (they experienced some form of trauma together and finally communicated their true feelings instead of trying to distance from each other). Sometimes that puts both of them in a new prespective that they had not known each other before. Even if they tried to live far away and forget one another as everyone sees it would be IMPOSSIBLE for heign because he had made annette his whole world. If you really wanted to push him and end things there annette would have to die. And eventually heign would follow death because he couldnt be in a world without her. So in conclusion i think this ending was the best of both outcomes because it means they have grown as people! And we all saw how their Love was Real. At one point in time they came to love each other for all they were with all the flaws and all. And they proved at the end to be together because they made it out alive together. So yea thats it (very good read btw would recommend). For once i think how heigner treated annette in the beginning was VERY deeply embedded in the plot till now hes still guilty about it and in a way he suffers for it im happy they showed such good development in the characters and the story it was so heartwrencing
