Anyone else find it disrespectful when manhwas include things relating to real life religion

Spam March 25, 2026 10:11 pm

I really dislike it when manhwas include sinful priests, or nuns or anything like that. Or when they make them sluts or do inappropriate things. It feels like blatant disrespect to me. I don't understand why some cannot just create a fake religion and draw on aspects from real ones instead of butchering people's beliefs. As someone who is involved with people who believe in Christianity it's all so disgusting to me. And it always is Christianity they mock, never any other religion. It's like when people dress up as slutty nuns for Halloween, noone bats an eye. But if you saw someone who clearly just puts on a hijab and dresses up slutty for Halloween it's disgusting and their life should be over for it. Why can't we have that same kind of mentality towards Christianity and respect their religion?

I agree, it’s a common stereotypical trope that I find distasteful when I do see it (slutty nuns especially). My religion is Buddhism and I cannot even imagine if someone dressed up as a slutty monk, that’s like, so far removed from acceptable

happens with all religions duh, not js christianity. it's js more rampant w christianity. maybe bc there's been a history of exploitation in the churches (?) i don't know much as im not christian, do i believe that all priests and nuns exploit/get exploited?no. but do i believe that it never happens/happens too rarely? no,either. it's prevalent enough for people to bring it out.

but i get your distaste for the portrayal of it, i myself saw the om tattoo on yoohan's back in payback BL manhwa, and was shocked. i mean, it's a tattoo of shiva's weapon and om, so to draw it in a place to "sexualise" it is pretty wierd. he could've had that tattoo anywhere else, why on lower back? leaves a bad feeling. that's why i haven't read that manhwa yet. i don't think i'll be able to get over it.

i think the reason it doesn't particularly happen in islam is bc people are more sensitive over it. also islam is never a pop-culture thing. christian symbols have become an aesthetic/ core as well. the whole catholic aesthetic and goth architecture churches aesthetic are prevalent and they look pleasing to the eyes, so we run w it. same with hinduism, terms like karma, chakra, nirvana, etc are words people use loosely, inculcating it in their lives. there's no equivalent of islamic imagery/terms other people have inculcated in their lives without being aware that it's a religious thing for others. so that's why "religion culture appropriation" is less common, i think.

but im not religion study expert, im js putting my views, ultimately what's right and wrong depends on how strongly we feel about it. i am not a devout proper hindu, (there's no one way to be that), but i would consider myself one, as i do identify w some sentiments of that religion. that doesn't mean i support it 100%, all religions are misogynist and deeply rooted in male-superiority, and i don't fw that. but some points do feel poignant. i feel im more of a hindu-spiritual inclining more than religion inclining. that don't mean i like it when people appropriate my religion(or any religion)

not at all, too much hatred & violence has been justified in the name of religion for me to respect it

ykw hell yeah i kinda agree w ur opinion i hv seen religious people spewing the most hate on people i generally hate the religious people no matter of what religion who push their religion down other's throats.....too many of those people in my country im sick of it. what's funny? the most religious people in authority/preaching the religion are caught in brutal crimes like SA, trafficking, felony etc.

Yeahh.. makes it harder for me to respect it aswell when it’s ridiculously common to see pastors get outed as child predators. I mean there is the larger rabbit hole conversation about how Christianity is rooted in hatred, like wdym people are gonna burn in eternal hell cause they like the same gender. ( ̄∇ ̄")

lmao these kind of religious ideas don't make sense to me like no genuinely WHAT THE FUCK? my god is not that small minded fr T_T. why would god hate people bc they LOVE someone (that happens to be same gender as them) like make it make sense. i don't understand the concept of "god love you" but *terms and conditions applied (not adhering to those conditions will get you a place in hell or sum made up shit like that) like hell nah man don't fw rn lmao. i don't believe in concept of god as in they are better than humans typa stuff. like no, I believe in moksha/nirvana and karma. you'll realise what you sow, and you'll end up getting into the cycle of life again and again until all the debts are paid, and all things are set in equilibrium by your entity/soul. after that, you're free from the life, you basically cease to exist. that's moksha. I believe in this theory and believing in gods for me, is a way to human-ify the things i feel I might want/need/should get...in this human life of mine. so i wanna study I'll pray to god of knowledge to make me good at studies, etc. it's js asking and affirming type thing.

I wrote out a long yap, haha. but that's just how I think, i don't want to believe in god who will hate me for stupid reasons and give me a ticket to heaven if i js repented. No. wrong doings are wrong doings even if you repent, and you can't be "forgiven" of it. whether you did it bc you didn't know better or not is a different take, but you still hurt others, for that you'll have to repay. karma should strike back. that's my belief. whether it happens or not is open for interpretation but I believe it does.
