He did and does show up more if he really loves someone. He was clingy and did anything to sneak into his 1st love's life during their school years and after the reunion.
It probably explains why he lacks "passion" for the MC blaming his old age
What happened with him was too real. Even you have the love as much as the other guy, if you’re not always there for him, you just can’t win. But I’m so glad he would find hopefully his true love ??
