I love a good spoiler but this one is pretty long so I'll TLDR. There's another goddess who has been banished because she could use manipulation. Like she had powers that could control minds.
Anyways, she's not talked about because she's been banished and is forbidden to be mentioned..but no one realized her descendants were still around. I e. His childhood best friend/love of his life.
There's strong rivalry between the banished one and Reefa's goddess. Which is where all of this stems from. Too long to explain. Sorry.
Ares was fully controlled in 1st timeline. Had zero will of his own. Seriously, this man had no autonomy because he was mind controlled the whole time.
There's this thing where these five dukes can be reborn if they're killed it's too long to explain but the only way to get rid of the manipulation is by death. He doesn't realize what's happened to Reefa and their unborn child or what he's become in the first timeline until he's killed by Reefa's momma. She's furious at him and wants him to suffer like her daughter. So that breaks the mind control, and he fights to heck and back for Reefa and their child once he's realized what's happened. He hangs that woman--I forgot her name, but the one who's his supposed love--on the wall of his caste after he murders her and desecrates her body like she did to Reefa. And then some other stuff happens and he begs the supreme god to rewind time and give him another chance.
I promise you that this guy is really innocent IMO. Sute he has poor communication skills and is awkward in 2nd TL, but He had no will or autonomy in the 1st. When you're brainwashed by a descendant of this goddess there is no reversal. It cannot be undone. I really felt for him. And he is so so so horrified in 2nd timeline when he finally gets his memories. He's disgusted by himself.
Also. In good news....that was not his baby!!!!!! Ares never betrayed Reefa physically but because of the brainwashing he couldn't negate the rumors that it was his child.
Somewhat of a HEA in 2nd timeline but it is open to interpretation. He can't love her because he can't forgive himself for what he did, but she loves him enough to break her engagement, chase him into battle, and claim her man.
4/5 IMO if I were to rate the book. Decent read too, but it'll make you sob. There's a TL somewhere online. That's how I read it before.
Anyways. Hopefully that makes you want to keep reading.

If it's in the second one, what the cause he killed by Reefa's mom?
He's killed by Reefa's mom in his first life. This is after the mom discovers what's happened to Reefa and that she cannot be reborn/healed. But the whole thing is that they can be reborn/healed. So he just accepted the death and then came back and took his revenge for his wife.
Took revenge from whom?
Isn't it he is that killed Reefa?!
Btw, does Lorenza -or whatever she is,- still alive after Reefa' Arrow her?
TLDR: Yes, he killed Reefa, but his mind was gone. He was mind-controlled. It's not an optional mind control; he had absolutely no free will once under that power and thought everything going on is what's real.
No, Lorenza doesn't come back in 1st TL. Once Ares finds out what she did to Reefa's body and their child after she died he tortured and murders her in the most vile of ways and hangs her body on his castle walls.
Wait. Wait. Everyone hang on. Don't pass judgement on this too soon. I've read the novel; there's a pretty decent plot twist and Reefa does a good job of staying away from Ares until almost the end. I swear she's not dumb, just traumatized. Ares also isn't the man we think in the first TL.
