I agree really, readers can definitely be disappointed that the story didn't go the way they wanted it too. Not all stories will satisfy them. The difference is the average reader will acknowledge it and move on, while some develop some weird para-social attachment to said work and let it dictate their reaction to the story if it didn't turn out the way they wanted it too. I was initially nice and an uncommitted reader until I got attacked on an innocent comment awhile back , so here we are lolol. sorry we jacked your comment.
