Get some help and see a psychiatrist first because you have zero empathy as a human being...
At the time of the back story King was completely innocent so he never deserved any of that at that time.. no one is justifying a person's wrong doing considering their backstory.. .. but saying that he deserved it at that age and time when he was a complete innocent child getting physically, mentally, sexually and verbally abused by his family and surrounding people is completely disgusting and pure vile... He was a kid and innocent back then... Just because author showed his present self first and the backstory later you guys have been viewing him as a villain from the get go..
Have some empathy for the younger self at least because at that time he didn't commit any crime.. if he deserves any punishment then his older self should face those consequences.. not the younger self..
And environment makes a person who they are, no sane person can come out of that kinda abusive place as a normal adult... He's fucked up in the head but that doesn't mean what he did can be forgiven.. but he also didn't deserve any of that when he was just a kid
The real irony is most of us would have turned out exactly like him if we also went through physical violence, mental torture and sexual abuse all at the same time at the hands of our own family and surrounding people... But some of us are not ready to admit that.. acting like a god sent saint when they never went through anything possibly close to what the ml in this story went through... Childhood trauma stays lifetime.. but im also not justifying any of the wrong deeds.. wrong is always wrong.. but we can at least have some empathy for the kid who went through the most horrifying things and lost his childhood and humanity...
I don’t lack empathy. I have empathy for all the innocent people that had nothing to do with his torture that the king murdered without remorse. I also feel empathy for the one person that treated the king as human and how he was repaid for his kindness. It’s the same in real life too, all those serial killers and rapist probably had a shitty childhood, I’ll still judge them for their crimes. You may also notice if you reread my post that I never said he deserved what happened btw. I just don’t think everyone else deserved what the king did to them as a result.
You have all the empathy for everyone except for the king because you don't like him from the very beginning.. you said you feel nothing, no empathy at all even for the King's younger self.. this chapter was about his past self not the present one.. which indicates only one thing you actually don't care about the wrong or right, you care about who you dislike more than the others... if you cared about wrong or right then you would have felt empathy for his younger self, ( mind it i don't mean the present one)... you are willing to accept whatever wrong has happened to the king when he was a kid just because you hate his present self. You dislike him for his present actions so you feel nothing when he was abused and tortured in the past.. where is his justice? Who's gonna bring his justice?. You even compared him with his child rapist brother and said he's worse than him.. this only proves your inner hatred for the character itself..
Hellooo and nobody justified that? Of course he has done equally wrong things and for that he should face consequences.. nobody said that he shouldn't..? The problem with your mindset is you can't separate the present self and the past self of the king...his past self doesn't deserve any of that just because in the present time he's murdering people.... what you said sounds like "he has murdered innocent people so i feel no sympathy for him when he suffered as a child, its his punishment" ...
You’re right. I can’t judge the king only as his younger self, and why would I? The story is not set in that past. I can’t look at his younger self without seeing what he would become. What would be the point in me just judging him on his past? It still wouldn’t redeem him in the present. I know why he’s mad now, but that still doesn’t make him more sympathetic in my eyes. I dislike the character because there’s literally nothing there for me to like. Where is his justice? He literally killed his abuser and seized the throne. What will Sam-myeong do to him to have his justice now? Probably nothing, let’s be real. This backstory has nothing to do with justice, it’s just a way for the readers to get on the king’s side and root for him and Sam-myeong’s love story. And yes, I compared him to his rapist brother. He is also a rapist, he raped the person he claims to love multiple times. Do you think raping someone you love isn’t as bad as raping someone you hate?
Nobody’s talking about punishment here. I just don’t see the point in separating his past and current self. Okay, I feel bad for the abused kid, now what? I’m not reading a story about an abused kid, I’m reading the story about the abuse that kid then committed on others. If the next chapter we get the brother’s backstory and he was also abused by someone else, will you suddenly become all sympathetic to him? You can say yes, but I think you know you wouldn’t give a damn because it still wouldn’t justify what he did, so why is it different for the king?
Nahh this aint it, while I’m a passerby and I do believe ml is a victim let’s not try and minimize the horrors of rape. And what does this have to do with OP having victim mentality? In our bid to empathize with all victims of this story let’s not lose the plot please, rape is horrible and unjustifiable. Even one rape scene is bad.
You have completely missed all of my points ...
You are actually taking sides here.. you like sam-myeong and think he shouldn't end up with the king so you are hating on the king.. but i do not see any hate when it comes to the king's abusers.. your mentality is very biased..
There's a difference between someone turning evil because of their environment and someone being evil just because of hatred.. the king was the product of his environment but the brothers are evil because they were jealous, arrogant and saw the king lesser than a human...so there shouldn't be any comparison at all....and I never said the wrongs can be justified no matter whoever does it .. wrongs are at their rightful place and everyone of them should face the consequences.. but the king definitely is not as evil as the brothers...and again im never justifying what he did to Sam and he deserves rightful consequences for that..but his brother is a child molester rapist who sexually molested their own brother who was a child..a child who can't defend himself... Thats far worse in my view..
And you are advocating sammyeong like sam-myeong is being tortured 24/7... But none of the misfortunes he faced before coming to the palace were related with the king other than the fact that king killed his family.. he lost his wife because of plague.. the daughter went missing.... In fact the king still has humanity left in him because he saved the kid instead of killing her but he was jealous of the kid so he did something selfish and didn't reveal her... But i don't expect any humanity from the king at all, he is a complex character... Even sammyeong knows that..

I feel nothing seeing the king’s backstory still. He became someone as despicable as the brother that tortured him. Perhaps he’s even worse, given that the one he’s tortured is the person he claims to love more than anything else.
