I tried reading the novel about a month ago and dropped it, so memory is already fuzzy.
I got to Lyle recognising the issues, and accommodating Haejin. But when the contract period was almost over he said "You didn't hold up your end of the deal because of the health issues, so you have to stay here for longer."
I understand at this point Haejin is a danger towards himself. Although he's not seeking death, he's not really doing anything to keep himself alive either. Lyle is trying to keep him alive, and he's getting back at the workers that did Haejin wrong.
But this isn't justice for Haejin, he doesn't care about this. If Lyle wants to redeem himself, imo he should establish a foster home (or something similar) in honour of Haejin and hopefully Haejin finds that life is worth living if he can help someone else. But I don't see this happening.
Btw, does Lyle ever learn to say "Jin's" name properly?
