The answer with the ice cream flavors is actually the right answer. You’re looking at this like people usually get to choose who they fall in love with. They don’t. They just fall in love. Ian simply loved TJ in a way he’d never love Jo. Every chapter leading us to this point made that clear. That’s all there is to it.
TJ never treated Ian as a forlorn fellow who had to be handheld through everything but saw him for who he actually was and still loved him as is. He respected him as a full grown man even if he didn't agree with his choices. He tried his best to let him live his life. Jo on the other hand imposed very heteronormative values into their relationship like mostly seeing Ian as a perennial victim incapable of handling his own business. Jo literally admits that at the end Ian didn't seem so small anymore. Ian was never small Jo just rationalised Ian's "victimhood". He inserted himself in things he didn't fully understand from his relationship with Ian itself to the whole gang shit. Jo invited himself to Ian's house which is a stark contrast to how TJ is welcomed to THEIR home as an equal and not some unwanted guest. Jo's presence made shit that was bad worse how could Ian trust him to ever do the right thing for both of them? Guess who did the right thing for Ian and himself? TJ. Jo as a love interest is just like the title wet sand. He looks like a clean guy with no issues but a look closer he's just muddy. He is flawed and unfortunately doesn't even seem to realise that he is not the saint he believes he is in Ian's life. His presence only gave Ian peace and tranquillity for a short while in the end it literally made him even more anxious, Ian literally started having hallucinations that weren't even drug induced. He didn't deter Ian from the gangsta life, in the end it's TJ who did that with the deal with the bear guy. Jo didn't save Ian as most people perpetuated on here. I'm sorry but Jo quite literally did nearly nothing for Ian to substantiate the hype he gets. He mostly warmed Ian's bed and be a temporary escape and substitute for TJ. But that's what the story gave us so...

I've asked this q so many times already but no one has answered me yet.
In what way is Tj actually BETTER than Jo as a love interest.
(I'm not tryna be rude or anything I just wanna know)
