Because his mother protected him when he's a child but tried to kill him when he's grown. Imagine the trauma. That's why he's afraid, scared that Tei would have stopped loving him same as his mother now that he's grown. And he's not ready to let go of the only person he knows that has shown him love and care. Shuraka is a child forced to grow. And the only other 2 people who has shown love to him is gone. One tried to kill him and the other died for him.
