Unfortunately, that was normal back then. A woman over, I think, twenty-three or four would be considered too old for marriage (though many still did so anyway.) Cedric's grandpa is an outlier for lifespan at the time so women married early to have the best shot at having children.

The "original" storyline doesn't happen in this one because the older sister (closer to his age) remembers that storyline and is adamant about keeping her beloved little sister safe by biting that bullet instead. It's a slow-burn enemies to lovers bit.
Sorry, I thought you were on a reread. The ML never goes for the younger sister. He's marrying because his grandfather wants him to marry someone from their family so he doesn't care which one.
He didnt care which one but he considered the younger sister first so it gave me an icked
