I like to think of them just having weird puppy love with this very idealized version of mc. It's not like he personally raised them, at most send money and misunderstandings so I can understand where some of this adoration is coming from even though he himself sees them as his children. Hopefully, they change the dynamic when they finally interact and actually spend time together
