I've genuinely thought about this so much. I feel like it's also sort of a self-fulfilling prophecy cause then most of yaoi ends up being very cliched/stereotypical romance, which leads to people judging it even further, which means seinen authors are less likely to put yaoi elements in their work.
Ughhhh I never considered it tbh, but it's an interesting idea, and the idea that I'm missing out on interesting stories in their fullest realization gets me so mad about homophobia and labeling/putting things in boxes and dismissing them （/TДT)/
i wonder how many "seinen" and "shonen" authors wanted to write a story that had BL elements but couldn't make their characters' relationship canon bc it would just reduce the story to “yaoi/BL” and they wanted more people to read their story without the prejudice that comes along with tagging a story as BL. i definitely think jjk, berserk, evangetlion etc. would definitely get a BL tag.
