Premise was so good

But FL is pmo. She's smart and old enough to know better, had she been one of those mc who openly accepted that they're more emotional and less of a rule follower, I'd forgive her stupidity and utter naiveness.
But no, she told us herself she's "adaptable, and an avid rule follower" , but she constantly has problems with doing as the rule ask of her. Allen warned her multiple times. She chose to question him, and even knowing the utter abuse that's going on in the home and being smart enough to understand that everyone she meets in the home is complicit in said abuse, she still blushes and instantly fell for Roger who obvly isn't normal. Like girl come on.

I get what the author is goings for she wants the romancey shoujo-ey parts of the story to heighten the whiplash you'll get from the horror parts but the execution sucks It just makes the mc looks dumb as hell
If you want a better execution of this specific romance//horror typa whiplash genre, read "surviving romance " instead, it actually is written in a better perspective .

I understand your point, but since I love this shit so much, I'll state my own opinion because I see it differently (not saying that I'm correct. I just want to share my opinion since I disagree with yours).

I think that her telling herself that she's an "adaptable" and "avid rule follower" was her motivating herself for the new job she's going to be getting. Like, she still has problems, but it's her way of "coping" to be good at what she's going to do, not that it was some unbreakable resolve that doesn't have flaws or that cannot be broken.

And, about her still getting all giddy with Roger, especially when her mother visited and caused a ruckus, I personally believe that was her past problems still messing with her resolve. Roger seemed to be the only one there who wasn't overly hostile, abnormal, or unusual. That's probably what made her let her guard down, but with her resolve she didn't fully trust him, not ever. She didn't fully trust anyone there and was cautious, so I think that's the reason why she chose to question Allen.

I don't think she treated Allen and Roger differently. She questioned both, never fully trusted them, but still was kind to them and tried to understand them. I liked her for that.

I also think that she had conflicts with the rules later on because she started questioning things more because of her growing concern for the children. I also interpreted her being pretty trusting to Roger as her response to her "ruined family" trauma. Like, she craved that love and desperately wanted to fix this issue with herself. So, when Roger asked her about it, at one of her lowest moments, she let it out, thinking it'd help.

I don't think it's her being dumb. I think it's her trying to finally do something with her problem, but that wasn't exactly right. From experience, not everyone is smart at everything. Everyone has weaknesses, just like her.

I'm not saying that you need someone to die for you to realize you made a mistake. But when she found out her mother died because of her FINALLY talking to someone about her problem, she realized that she couldn't just confess that to anyone, especially to Roger, who seemed to have ulterior motives.

But from that, she finally learned this because of the consequence. I know it's pretty disappointing that she only realized that then, but since it is her first time actually telling someone her problem, for me it's valid that she was vulnerable to Roger's scheme.

We also see that when she fully blamed herself for what happened, she really had conflict with herself, which made her life difficult. It also made her somewhat weak when it comes to things like family, love, telling her feelings, etc.

But she resolved that when she told Allen (her second time confessing and having courage to), because he actually gave her genuine comfort and he was actually someone she could trust. She also understood that Allen had problems like her (blaming himself) and helped him with his problem too. This was pretty sweet for me, and it was a nice character development for me.

Well, this is my opinion on those happenings! Again, I don't mean to correct you or anything because I don't know if I'm right myself. I just want to share my own perspective. So, if some parts sound dumb, sorry. If you have more clarifications or opinions, I'd love to talk!

(I didn't really want to reply, but I couldn't help it cus I really liked this, and I thought it would be fun to share my own view of the story or the MC's character).

Thank you for sharing! Although I gotta be honest, I'm one of those ppl who when I've made my opinion abt smth, especially a character, usually I stick to it unless I'm proven wrong objectively in which this case, the story itself never have strong objectively apparent points, most of it up for interpretation.
I'm glad this story works for you! Personally It's a bit ass for me which I regret cus the premise and art is so good. Hope you have a nice day?

Tbh i didnt expect that too, the interaction between FL and rogers kinda flat and when roger confess to fl, her reaction didnt express like "omg i'm fallin in love" but when she knows the cause her mom is Roger, she said "open her hearts to him?" Hey c'mon.

I just hope, at least, if this end with happy ending and with love love vibes, it will be with Allen, please.
