Haha that's one of the things you have to learn to grapple with. People who are needlessly hateful or are otherwise not of good disposition be it due to psychopathology or simply, personality. Some may even become your client or patient.
Regardless, this is a field that is gaining much traction and recognition while at the same time still something many remain unaware or ignorant of. Whatever area you may focus on, the reality will be that it will be challenging and can both rewarding and devastating. I know a few handful of psychologists, therapists, psychiatrists, etc. that have "fucked people up". They don't care about people. Or they have learned to tune out the pain that comes along with the job with unhealthy coping mechanisms. And Heck. You'll even study some of these type of people. Freud himself wasn't the best guy either. You'll wind up questioning the very principles you thought you'd uphold. When that time comes, I hope you remember to choose discipline guided with purpose. Don't lose yourself kid. There are still plenty and plenty of good practitioners. Be one of them.
Ps. I just finished a textbook that's why I'm writing weirdly formal for a comment lol. As a senior who knows they won't be pursuing the field further due to circumstances and is emotional af thinking about, I truly sincerely hope the best for you. Fighting!
so cool! still rethinking abt it though bcs i’m torn on what program I really want for pre-law but I do love thrillers and books with mind puzzling plot and watch documentaries involving people struggling with mental health so I have to say a part of me wants to study in the field! you’ve been very helpful
