SO much of the bad is a result of shitty parenting.. TLDR: Yes, Cezar is a sick fuck, but the pope screwed up his development from WAY too young of an age for him to do anything about it now. Glad he’s offing him. Still, I do like this story to see how it all pans out. MEGA pissed that he’s back in the fucking building again tho.
Also fuck the pope hardcore for ruining those precious children and turning them into mental nutcases. For all we know, Cezar and Ruby could’ve ended up together if the pope didn’t torture him and make him think that punishment = love. Or maybe he could’ve actually been able to maintain a healthy sibling bond, regardless of neither of them having blood connections - maybe cezar is half brothers with Enzo? I think they have the same mom? Correct me if I’m wrong, I didn’t reread from the beginning. But now Cezar is just too traumatized and mentally askew to see past his obsession and Ruby ended up getting beaten from both her father AND the brother she actually loved, which made her almost too mentally unstable to figure out how to get out of that situation. Like I feel bad for the original Ruby who never made it out of that. Crud, do we know the reincarnated chick’s name? I also forget around when she got into Ruby’s body. I’m on 134 (latest official translation), but only reread from 100, so I can’t remember if this stuff got addressed since it’s been a long time. If it hasn’t, then I’m curious if she’ll come out with this stuff to Iz.
As for Iz and Ellen’s dad, damn I get the loss of his wife was bad (first mentally and then physically - both weren’t pretty) plus the societal gender roles thing, but he really shouldn’t have neglected his kids so much. Like, dude, the kids need to be around eachother more and you need to be there for them if your wife can’t be (starting from when she became a danger to them). T-T
Also Freya… did her parents neglect her once her brother was born? Can’t remember, but I feel like we got some info on her family situation that also shows shitty parenting when it came to her - which can be seen by her being ok with manipulating people regardless of closeness as well as the blatant racism a lot of the country seems to have.
Not complaints about the story or writing. I actually like this story quite a bit since it does well with depicting the characters and ties events in well. My pissiness (like, pissed off ness - I realize this word could be read differently from a quick scan) at the pope just will not be quelled since he ruined so many peoples’ lives
