Also, yeah, there was that one moment where they were both knotting at the same time, which we haven't seen yet even if there are many alphaxalpha stories.

I know what you mean. I had that thought get often while reading. Like “okay but what about the shock with each other pheromones? Are their second genders really relevant to the story?” I’m not really sure why the author chose omegaverse for Hayden and Brett. It made sense for Scott, the omega, bc he got pregnant and all, but even the bond was brushed aside by the end. Remove the omegaverse factor from Hayden and Brett’s story, and the story could have been written without much issues still.

there's no good way to frame hayden sexually assaulting that guy in his past outside of ABO, and it's the source of his trauma and repression. taking away the ABO setting would take away some of the flavour in the worldbuilding and characterization, it's like salting your sweets. i like that brett, as an alpha, projects his pheromones without restraint but is nonchalant about his penchant for masochism and preference for bottoming for other alphas. his attackers pissing on him takes on a bit of a different meaning in an ABO world. sure, you could tell a similar enough story set in our normal world, but it would be a little less fun. those are my two cents

Hayden didn't SA anyone. Wth are you guys even reading? They tried to consensually have sex but Hayden has very strong pheromones which affected the omega badly as he couldn't handle them. Kind of like an overdose which sent his body in shock. This is why Hayden started overdoing his supressant bc he didn't want others to get hurt by his pheromones. His pheromones also play the biggest role in this being alphaxalpha. As his own pheromones are very strong, he likely doesn't get affected by other alpha pheromones, normal omegas can't take his pheromone and Brett loves the feeling of being on edge to the point he is almost suffocating by Hayden's pheromones. Basically, all conditions mean they are the best match they could have gotten.

I understand comprehension is hard so here's the jist of it : Hayden has strong pheromones which means he doesn't get affected by Brett's, and Brett loves how Hayden's pheromones dominate and supress him in bed. Hayden can't be with omegas bc he tried and his pheromones harmed the omega. Hayden can't date most other alphas bc they won't like his pheromones dominating them. He could date betas but then his partner won't be able to keep up with his rut bc betas' bodies aren't made for that. So Brett is the only viable option. So ues it makes sense for this to be ABO and alphaxalpha at that.

ah i might have mixed it up with something else i read then, it's been a while. regardless hayden's backstory would have to be overhauled to fit a non-ABO setting because pheromones wouldn't exist.
