Tbf I used to have a cat that would come barging in all the time and it wasn’t even my cat. I named him Micah thinking he’s a stray and turns out the family on the other road owned him and his name was something like wotsit or Cheeto. It got to the point that everyone assumed it was a stray that became our cat and we even were planning on taking it to the vets to register it as our cat. It is possible that the cat just prefers that home. There’s also another cat called fifi and she comes daily for food and hangs around our place because it’s near the alleyway her owner walks to work through so she follows him to the alley and back home from the alley. Cats love people.
You typed this long winded message to say nothing I didn’t know, and its not even relevant to what I said really… did you read it? did you read this book even? it feels like you didn’t understand either if you really felt you had to type all that out…. a cat is not going to just jump through the window of someplace it’s unfamiliar with.. and in this particular instance, he saw a cat jump through a window, followed it, and although he couldn’t find the cat when he got inside, there was clear evidence a cat lived there.. basic deduction skills would say that the cat he saw belongs to the person living there. furthermore, he was directly told that a cat lived there.. one that liked to go outside. just think for one second.
and yk just by the way.. not all cats just love people. I have two, and one of them loves me and avoids almost all others, and still she doesn’t like me nearly as much as my older cat does. I’ve had them both practically their whole lives.
“Why would it have gone straight in someone’s window if it wasn’t familiar with the place..” and I answered that. Sometimes cats go to places they don’t live at just because they wander around and realise this nice human is a doormat and will pet and feed me! It doesn’t necessarily mean the cat lives there. Also, in Japan, they have an abundance of stray cats. They have so many cats that there’s an entire island of cats. It’s normal to not assume cats have owners in that situation.
Also, cats are social creatures and view humans as weirdly-shaped, hairless cats that walk funny. They like humans and we know this because they self-domesticated and keep self-domesticating. That being said, cats have standards and if someone doesn’t meet those standards, they won’t like them. Just like every other creature. So yeah. Cats like humans and will follow nice humans home even if they aren’t the owner. I don’t get why you’re being so rude and defensive over a simple comment highlighting that cats go where they please, even if that means going places they aren’t familiar with. I suggest doing some introspection on why you’re so triggered cause that was a disproportionate reaction to what I wrote. Have a nice day.
Genuinely… the only thing that “offended” me was the fact that I got this reply months after I left the comment. You had to really be looking.. and also my point wasn’t that it was strange that a cat went into someone’s window, not really. My entire point was that common sense and basic deduction should have at least had him think “hmm… seeing as this guy owns a cat, maybe the cat that took my wallet and ran STRAIGHT to this SPECIFIC window, is that cat.” But no, he was shocked when he found out it was the same cat. and so, when you responded months later acting as though its so very common for cats to just go in peoples homes… and it’s really not. it’s also not true that all cats like humans, especially not strays. the strays youve encountered were cats that originally had owners and got outside someway or other.. a cat that has been born outside is not typically going to just follow the giant strange hairless animal that comes close. you can write as many paragraphs as you’d like, but like you said; cats domesticated themselves. Its extremely easy for them to fall back on their natural instincts. A feral cat might as well be a wild one.. not to mention we didn’t hand craft them to love us inconditionally like dogs. so sure there are particularly loving cats, and sure treating them good would definitely make them like you more, but unlike dogs, it’s entirely possible that no matter what you try your cat just won’t like you much.
I wasn’t “triggered” because I don’t get triggered, I actually just do this as a way to pass time; debate with people about things that Ik I don’t really care about. I can examine myself but I know what I’d find; that I need to get better hobbies
for example, my sister got a cat that wasn’t properly socialized, and she wasn’t the type of person to take the time to get a cat used to her, and so the entire time she had him which was over a year, he would be hiding 99% of the time. compare him to her other cat, who was properly socialized.. he was the exact cat you’ve been describing; overly friendly, talkative, kinda clingy, loved going outside.. and since my sister had this pair, she never even tried getting the reserved one to be more used to people, she’d just leave him be. eventually when she had to move to the next apartment building over, because she never tried to get him to like her, when she tried to bring him to the new apartment, he jumped out the window for the first time ever and didn’t return ☠☠☠
anyway what im trying to say is that while I do know he would have likely gotten used to people if someone took the time (or listened to me) I also think he might have just been skittish naturally.. and my sister’s other cat spent time around mine as a kitten, as well as more people.. he was skittish as a kitten, but by the time he was a few months old he was already friendly.. I really like cats, to the extent where I study them like other animals I like.. I don’t think there’s anything you could tell me I don’t know

He followed the cat through someone’s window, met the homeowner and saw he owned a cat, even found out it was a cat who liked to wander outside… and it never occurred that maybe the cat who stole your wallet actually lived there..? Why would it have gone straight in someone’s window if it wasn’t familiar with the place..
