His success will always be shadowed by the possibility that he only achieved so much bc he bedded the one funding him. Especially with classical music….even if he's extraordinarily talented - Hell, even if he's a prodigy - to an untrained ear it can be difficult to tell the nuances in actual skill once you reach a certain level of mastery. So the general public will speculate.

Sorry if that came off snobby….I went to college for classical music, and my spouse & siblings-in-law are all professional classical musicians. I’m just stating what I’ve observed in my field. I also think my above opinion is most difficult to differentiate with piano in particular as it’s one of the only (minus much of percussion) classical instruments where there's no technique for intentional intonation adjustment (i.e. varying types of vibrato, portamento/slide, bending, wobble, etc.)
