It's one of the million little details of foreshadowing for the genuinely unique plot twist. I've never come across this concept in an OV story. The conflict has just the right level of moral conflict and the resolve of the conflict is very well done. One gets to see the actual process of the characters processing of what happened, grow and change, so that the reconciliation feels earned and satisfying. It's pretty rare to find a story where this part is so well done.
