Something being gay isn’t just for plot, and the impact being gay has on plot, the author can simply write their own characters as gay sexuality wise and therefore the romance they experience is gay. Maybe just stick to reading heterosexual stuff if you’re going to complain that a bl would be ‘better’ if it was straight, which makes no sense. The characters aren’t straight, you didn’t write them, the author did. How would being straight make the plot better? Weird comment.

Can't believe I'm saying this but: this didnt need to be yaoi. Like the story would have been exactly the same (if not better) if it was hetero. Also the Sex scenes felt unnecessary and actually kinda annoyed me.
