Not sure how many chapters were out when you wrote this .. but now that there's at least 30, most of what you're complaining about has already been explained.
The slavery aspect is actually integral to the story and is well explained while having a purpose. It is a big part of the lore of the church and empire.
Also yes she is a weak character. Bc she's never had any actual power.
She has been a pawn at every turn. She had zero help from anyone. She has no allies. And no way to make allies.
She has been making moves but obviously with her lack of power or assistance it's going to be the bare minimum. She's doing everything on her own. She doesn't even have the maid/sidekick character that stories like these have. She doesn't have a single person on her side.
We literally see her preparing to throw herself into the sea bc that's all she has the power to do to help him.
Who is she supposed to get help from?
No one in the palace is on her side, nor in the temple.
The only person who seems to care is someone she has basically no way to contact (as well as she thought he was dead for five years) and she is not sure if he killed her in their first life and if he will do so again.
So at this point of the story (yk the beginning and set up) all of this makes sense.
Obviously this isn't Shakespeare, so the writing isn't super strong. But most of this can be easily explained by just waiting and reading?

The ML and his people were enslaved after the empire took over generations in the past.
The slavery isn't why they met. And if you were to argue that then they Both are slaves since she was given to the priest by her parents as a piece of property. Locked away with zero freedom, beaten often, sold to the highest bidder. She's a slave too.
You seem to be confusing a story that just slaps slavery in there for the fun of it for this one which explicitly says the plot is about slavery and fighting your oppressors.
Unless you have an issue with stories about fighting oppression?
Is this a "I'm conservative and I'm tired of the woke slavery agenda" take?
Otherwise I'm confused on why you'd be upset about a plot that deals with the repercussions of slavery and how history is shaped and written by the winners.
Like the plot is actually "two enslaved people fight back".

i fucking hate these “i need to save the ML!” FLs who are never actually saving anyone.. and exist solely to emotionally regulate the ML and look pretty.. and probably get kidnapped, abused, and imprisoned so the ML can “heroically” rescue her and further enforce the idea that “only a man can save you, you cant do anything yourself.”
also they included slavery.. in passing? for why? did the author REALLY include slavery just to explain how a darker-skinned ML met a pale ass FL?
