We like to compare girls being into yaoi with guys being into lesbian porn, but they're not equivalent. Guys seem to have this thing where it either needs to be fully sexual or needs to involve a guy in some way who they can project on (MFF situations, situations where a "lesbian" is "turned straight," etc.). On the other hand, girls seem to prefer when some stuff is left up to the imagination (hence them being being the dominant producers/consumers of erotica and fanfiction as opposed to straight up porn) and they also seem to prefer when no girls are involved in MM situations (how common are fictional situations where a "gay" man is "turned straight?"). This points to subtle differences between men and women's vicarious sexual/romantic preferences, although I wonder how much is innate and how much socialization plays a role
