It's like older BL fully leaned into the stereotypes about gay men, making them incestuous pedophilic rapists for the love of the game. Newer BL does it to but mostly for pornographic reasons (e.g., lots of illicit sex scenes - not my thing but a lot of people's guilty pleasures I'm sure). It's not like we're seeing Sawa and his cousin/lover (ew) having sex or anything, the author just decided they really needed the relationship to be there
