You’re probably mistaken because this has always been mature. Or maybe you’re talking about the Spirit of Muryeong? They shared the same universe (just different timeline)
'Shounen' means young boy (teenage male) so the shounen genre refers to what a young boy might enjoy reading like one piece, naruto, dragon ball Z, etc. Whereas 'ai' means love so 'shounen ai' is boy love. That's there difference. I do believe this was under shounen ai but when they had sex it added the mature content tag
