hot take, but I didn’t like the ending. I know their relationship was toxic and Airi was probably heavily shaped by trauma/Stockholm syndrome, but the ending still didn’t work for me emotionally. Her moving on into this almost performative normal life while literally keeping her past lover hidden away made the whole fiancé/husband relationship feel hollow and unsettling. It felt like neither of them was actually free of the obsession, which is why I honestly thought a tragic ‘die together’ ending would’ve fit the story’s tone and themes better. The fact that she was literally keeping her former lover hidden away in the house made the whole marriage feel hollow and performative rather than real or healthy. It created this weird disconnect where the story acts like she moved on, but emotionally she clearly hadn’t. That’s why I honestly felt like them dying together would’ve fit the story’s tone more it would’ve felt more consistent with the destructive attachment both of them had instead of this awkward half-normal ending.

I like how the story went it seems pretty realistic. Trauma is very hard to get over but these things will get better once you find someone who can deal with you and them. A helpful and loving person can go a long way.

Yeah that’s true. I’m happy she found someone but I felt like she should’ve just told the police what he had done, he killed and raped many people, he deserved to die. It feels like she’s condoning his actions by letting him live if that makes sense, it feels like her life is almost performative and she never actually moved on from her past. But I get what you mean, to have someone be there for you when you aren’t emotionally stable and just have someone to love and care for you despite your past can help you overcome your fears & trauma. I just think that in a way it feels like she’s still not over him despite being in a relationship and should focus on herself.

He deserved to die. Yeah, I agree he did, but I don’t think it would’ve changed much. She probably would’ve committed suicide. Even if he had been locked up, she was too attached to him and relied on him a lot. Btw, this whole story was basically about her. She became the best version of herself because of all these factors. Her kidnapper being alive and, in a weird way, helping her, and her boyfriend being the main factor. Idkkkkkk, I’m bad at explaining it, but I don’t think she would’ve healed to this extent or become who she did without everything that happened.

Yeah I get what you mean dw, I agree. I just thought it could’ve been more fleshed out and there was a lot of plot holes. But yeah, she was heavily traumatized and that can definitely define you as a person. She probably was aware that he deserved to die or that he was a bad person but she didn’t have the emotional capacity to leave due to dependency. I just hope one day she gets the courage to kill him or something

I don’t think you know how difficult it is to die it’s a preferable ending for both of them to live ….
