Lot of people disappointed or surprising in the ending but I feel like it was the inevitable, hanabusa knew something was going wrong, he knew that there was a genuine change in mcs behaviour and he only further isolated mc into believing he also carried the ‘sin’ with his hikaru . It’s really interesting how the story highlights the mothers character, someone whose willing to pass of the action onto mc and then realising she married out of love maybe but also to get away from hikaru being in a situation where he was molested therefore of course she thinks he’s the one who she needs to protect again. And the way when she approaches mc he realises how everyone is hiding or reframing what the ‘real issue’ is.. but in the end to see how selflessly all she did was love her son and even mc trying to ‘save’ whoever she planned on.
Reading the manifestation of guilt on the MC after the mothers death genuinely felt like relapsing, it was so terrible seeing him try and seek out hikaru just to realise WHY and then realise he won’t be able to get away again… hanabusa had a critical period and he missed it with his dumbass ego.. I understand from his side who could even presume or want to work out something like that but really MC was so close to getting help, finding a new life just for it to all be crushed again and again
