I feel more bad for Taesan than the Main Character and it’s not talked about enough.
First, he attracts the attention of some freak that takes his feelings out on you by beating you and those around you for help. Isolating you.
Then, the only person that was there for you—or so you thought, was actually not helping you because he cares—but because he didn’t want the guy he liked, which happens to be your bully, to divert his attention elsewhere.
As if that wasn’t enough, you brace yourself and tell someone you thought was your confidant about your personal troubles and he thinks it’s a sob story.
You live in poverty almost so you can’t even stand up against most of the people there and you just want to read quietly.
Your ‘friend’, the person who stuck up for you, is beat up because of your obsessed bully.
Then, after a while, you come back to school. Your ‘friend’ got 1st place, you want to congratulate him by writing a letter only for his crazy ass soon to be boyfriend call you a cockroach with a repulsed expression—AND— he frames you by trying to make Jun think you were responsible for the cockroach prank.
You muster your courage to tell him he should be careful and that his man is high-key insane and abnormal only for him to brush it off as— “look, I get you’ve been through this and shit but dawg not everyone was like your bully. This ain’t right for you to think that way lol.”
Aaaaaaand guess who was right? Guess what happened?
I could never understand the hierarchy system in the school. Sure, you want to be “normal”, you want to “impress” your crush but at the cost of another’s suffering?
Jun only stood up for Taesan because he didn’t want Junwoo to realize his feelings for him—not because he genuinely cared. It’s so bad to the point you just watch him get beat up countlessly.
When others shame him, Jun doesn’t even feel an ounce of empathy. If liking someone is going to blind my morals and basic human compassion, I’d rather not like anyone at all. Ever.
