Honestly, I'm with you when it comes to forcing ships into everything. At some point, people stop appreciating the actual story, characters, and plot and become completely focused on their preferred ships.
I'm not against shipping. People can ship whoever they want. What I have an issue with is when fans try to make an entire series revolve around ships and ignore everything else the story has to offer. I've seen fandoms become toxic because of this, and it can seriously affect how people view a series.
Take Boku no Hero Academia as an example. The fandom became heavily associated with shipping discourse, to the point where it often overshadowed discussions about the actual story. A lot of the characters being shipped were also minors, which made some of the more extreme behavior uncomfortable to watch. I see similar patterns happening here, and I wouldn't be surprised if things eventually go down the same path.
Again, people are free to enjoy whatever ships they like. The problem starts when people become hostile toward others simply because they don't share the same opinions. There's no reason to insult, harass, or attack someone because they don't support your favorite pairing. Everyone is entitled to their own perspective.
Personally, I think shipping can become harmful when it starts dominating every discussion, especially in genres where romance isn't even the main focus. If people want to ship characters, that's perfectly fine, but not every interaction needs to be turned into proof of a relationship. None of us know the creators' intentions unless they're explicitly stated.
And honestly, I find it strange when adults become overly invested in shipping very young child characters in an excessively romantic way. If people want to discuss adult characters or age-appropriate relationships, that's one thing. But regardless of what someone ships, the conversation should remain respectful.
At the end of the day, everyone should be able to enjoy a series without being hated on, mocked, or harassed for having a different opinion.
I figured I'd say something because I've seen you getting bashed quite a bit, and I don't think it's entirely necessary. It's good to share your views and opinions, and everyone has a right to express how they feel about something.
That said, there may come a point where it's best to take a break from the discussion and not let it consume all your energy. Not everyone is going to agree, and that's okay. What's important is being able to share your perspective respectfully and understanding that others may see things differently.
At the end of the day, people should be able to have discussions without resorting to insults or personal attacks. I hope things calm down for you soon.
Their words dont evoke any sort of “discussion”. Their comments aren’t even about how shipping to the point of disregarding the story is bad but about how shipping queer ships in Wha is harmful because according to them the characters are straight. And in terms of the former the wha fandom doesnt even experience that sort of problem. I’ve seen heavy discussion for all sorts of factors and themes of the story which yes include queer ones but there’s a lot that can be analysed too through a shipping lense. All fandoms have their bad apples and theyre usually the loudest but it’s ur choice I wanna focus on that side or not. Ship whatever u like who cares thats not the problem, the problem is that they have spammed the same comment about a bajillion times now and are covering up the comments that are, cough cough actually commenting on the chapter
My comment wasn't about queer ships specifically. People can ship whoever they want—that's their business. My point was more about when shipping starts to overshadow discussion of the story itself or when people become hostile toward others over different interpretations.
As for the repeated comments, I can understand why that would frustrate people if it's drowning out chapter discussion. I was mainly responding to the amount of backlash I saw directed at them, not necessarily agreeing with every comment they've made.
I also think it's worth remembering that, unless the story explicitly confirms it, none of us really know a character's sexuality. We generally try not to make assumptions about real people, so I don't see much value in treating our assumptions about fictional characters as absolute fact either. People can have their own interpretations and ships, but that doesn't mean everyone has to agree with them or accept them as canon.
At the end of the day, I'd rather see people discuss the chapter, characters, themes, and even ships without it turning into insults, harassment, or fandom wars.
Agreed! (Tho I do think there’s a difference between “assuming a characters sexuality” and then actually reading in between the lines of what’s presented through the story but thats a whole other thing) Except u were kinda defending the person who was turning to insults, assuming characters sexualities and covering up actual talk of the chapter so the backlash is valid
No worries, I get where you're coming from. If they were repeatedly posting the same comment and drowning out discussion about the chapter itself, I can definitely understand why people would find that frustrating.
I also agree there's a difference between outright assuming a character's sexuality and interpreting what's presented in the story. I just think sometimes people can become so attached to their interpretation that they start treating it as an unquestionable fact, and that's where discussions tend to get messy.
To be honest, I wasn't trying to defend every comment they made. I was mostly commenting on the amount of backlash I saw and the way some people were responding. But I can see why people would be annoyed if the same point was being spammed over and over.
And yeah, you seem chill too. I think we probably agree on more than we disagree.

Someone spreading misinformation that I hated GL because of btw hating on delulu when I also hated those delulu bl ship in the same comment. Classic shippers getting mad and spreading nonsense justto justify their delulu and spreading bullshit. They are not canon and never will be this other gay ships
Once again. Shipping Coco x Agott and Olly x Qifrey isn’t “just harmless fun” like y’all keep saying. It actually hurts the entire gay community in very real, very damaging ways, and I’m going to spell it out exactly why, because you guys refuse to listen:
It erases and neglects actual queer representation
You pour all your time, energy, fanart, money, and hype into shipping straight characters or people who are only ever written as platonic best friends, while completely ignoring or sidelining actual canon gay characters and confirmed queer relationships. Genuine representation is already so rare in manga/anime as it is but instead of supporting and uplifting the stories and characters that do give us real, undeniable rep, you give all that attention to ships you made up out of thin air. This actively makes it harder for proper LGBTQ+ stories to get the visibility, appreciation, and success they truly deserve. Why would creators make more canon gay content when they see you guys go crazy over anything even if it’s just friendship?
It reduces queer identity to nothing more than a fantasy or headcanon
By forcing romantic or gay dynamics onto characters who are explicitly straight or just friends, you treat being queer like it’s some little game, something you just imagine for fun, instead of a real, legitimate identity, experience, and relationship type. You turn queerness into a headcanon accessory, not something real people live. Actual queer people see this and it makes us feel invalidated, trivialized, or like our entire identity is just a “toy” or a trend for your entertainment. Real love and real representation isn’t something you make up it’s something written into the story, clear and intentional.
It spreads hate and hostility toward the whole gay community
Because you guys force ships onto straight characters or normal friendships, people outside the community start associating all queer fans with toxicity, delusion, and weird behavior. You create this terrible stereotype that every gay person is just someone who overanalyzes everything, twists basic interactions into romance, and can’t accept that sometimes people are just friends. We end up getting blamed, mocked, or hated for things we didn’t even do. All because you can’t tell the difference between “canon gay” and “two guys being nice to each other.” We just want actual, confirmed rep—not your delusional made-up ships, but we’re the ones getting the backlash for it.
Because of shippers, creators choose cheap bromance over real representation
This is the worst part: writers and artists see exactly how you act. They see how obsessed you get with shipping literally anything—even regular friendships, even basic acts of kindness, even people just standing near each other. They learn fast: they don’t need to give us actual canon gay romance to get all the hype, fanart, merch sales, and fandom engagement. They can just write vague “bromance”, throw in soft lines or meaningful gestures, use queerbaiting, and you guys will scream “IT’S CANON!!” and act like you won something. They get all the benefits of queer rep without ever actually committing to it. We end up stuck with empty hints, fake vibes, and crumbs, while real, proper representation gets replaced by cheap fan service that never goes anywhere.
