Sure, 18 is the legal age in many places, but legality and morality aren't the same thing. Just because something is legal doesn't automatically make it okay.

Also, there are countries where the age of consent is 15 or 16. By that logic, an author could make the character 15 and say, "Well, the age of consent is 15, so it's fine." Most people wouldn't accept that.

I think people are more willing to overlook it when the character is 18 because society likes to treat 18 as this magical age where someone suddenly becomes a fully grown adult. I'm sorry, but 18 is still incredibly young. They might think they're mature, but they're still basically a baby compared to someone who's 28.

So for me, the issue isn't whether it's technically legal. It's the age gap, life experience, and power imbalance that make it uncomfortable.

Yeah I guess 20 is better than 18, but personally I dont like age gaps, even 8 years is too much for me, but thats just a personal thing. Im so curious why they changed.
