I believe he was 17-18 and I don’t really know if he was orphaned or lost his family! But he was so tired of fighting that he was ready to just call it quits they overused and overworked him when he was still so young so he didn’t care if he died!
Around 20 (hence 8 years passed, when he was out of the rift, he's 28.) He wasn't an orphan but on the day when people awakened, his parents and whole neighborhood died (presumably from dungeons and monsters).
Like when he went into the rift? He was a orphan right no? So no family or anything to keep him tied down
