first read this in high school back when mangafox was around. i'd really look forward to the updates because this manga felt so different from everything else i was reading. it was messy and queer and unafraid to get ugly while exploring base desire. i felt so drawn to yuki's confused sense of self and femininity, kaito's fluid gender expression, and mikako's masks crashing in on her. i was hesitant to reread because i remember it so fondly, but all these years later, i still love this story. it's such a vivid portrayal of growing up on the outskirts of normal and trying to make peace with yourself. we're all figuring it out and searching for people who get it and can fill the holes.
"if i'm half boy, maybe someone like you who's half girl is just perfect for me... "
