Cakes: taste sweet, can smell sweet as well. Literally any bodily fluid tastes sweet basically. So pretty much the omega like one.
Forks: depending on what your reading, the fork cant taste anything at all and they eventually become obsessed with the cake's taste. Another thing about that is it can go in two directions: wholesome obsessive or psychological & cannibalism (the latter doesnt have the fork act on it, most they did was bite the cake or lick their wounds,etc if had any). Both are good imo.
Also depending on what you're reading, they can be born as a fork/cake or become one later on (becoming one is moreso for forks tho as they lose their taste as they age)
