First of all, the art never disappoints! Honestly, I remember not knowing how I felt about Jaekyung’s character in the beginning. He treated EVERYONE like crap, its not like he targeted Dan. Dan just became the one who received that crap the most because he was too soft and was with Jaekyung all the time. Jaekyung was a character with a strong personality and learned to not take any kind of crap from anyone and this was most likely learned behavior from his upbringing. Because if he was too soft and weak, he won’t reach his goal. And if he doesn’t reach his goal, he wouldn’t have anything else going. I’m pretty sure that’s why his previous coach told him that there’s more to just being champion. Its because he noticed that Jaekyung is not letting else or anyone else into his life. But because Dan was such an angel, he kept poking at Jaekyung’s bubble that protected Jaekyung’s inner child from getting any more hurt. Besides, I think he always had a soft spot, he just never knew how to express positive emotions because he was always shown negative ones. An example would be how he was always nice to Dan’s grandma.
Though this is not an excuse to treat another human being the way he treated Dan; I think what matters is that he reflected, repented, and changed. Though it seems like he still have a temper, its nothing compared to before. Dan’s influence on him was a good one, Jaekyung doesn’t show it but the way he looks at Dan’s reaction before making a decision shows that he changed. Jaekyung, the one with the crazy temper and violence being stopped by Dan with either one look or just saying something shows that he cares for Dan and cares about what Dan thinks. And honestly, what matters is that Jaekyung changed, apologized, and has been trying to make up for everything he did and Dan forgave him.
I know Dan deserves better, he was always at the receiving end of these negative emotions and because of that, his own light died out. But during that time, it was Jaekyung who brought that light back. I know people are gonna say “well it was his fault to begin with” and yes I agree, but, I have a feeling that even if it weren’t for Jaekyung, Dan would’ve ended up that way after his grandma passed away. Because Dan has always had a habit of turning to bad vices when he is going through things like how he used to be a heavy smoker before.
I also think that despite everything, their personalities complement each other and like Dan said, they can make up for whatever the other lacks and thats how a relationship should be. But of course, Jaekyung still has a long way to go in terms of expressing his love and feelings properly, but Dan being an understanding angel, I think they will be fine.
I want to see side stories of them but I also want side stories of the side couple too. Maybe something like Dan and Jaekyung finding out lol that would be funny.
Anyway, the drama, plot, flow, character development, and redemption arc of the characters were really good. I know some people hate Jaekyung and says that he doesn’t deserve to be happy, but I think he’s been through enough, same for Dan, its time for them both to be happy whether its with each other or not. And seeing both of their behaviors at the end, it seems like thats going well.
Loved it, especially the second half with the redemption and reflection arc.
