The emperor Gregor was most interesting character. It was nice that none of the characters were good in typical sense (except Alice the sweetheart). Laurence could've been given better role in story, and Lysia became plain disappointing. But I won't pick every character now, despite being a lot.
I guess it's originally a novel, so it's better rounded there. Anyways, the political side of the story is made quite detailed by author. The romance parts were, well not. They felt more unnecessary and awkwardly put for romance fans.
