in future chapters they got into a situation where maxi had to be sent away , after coming back there was a “ball” and before that when she did come back riftan had ignored her “existence” and when the ball had been going on she wore something revealing if i remember correctly and danced with another man. Riftan was very mad abt it and took maxi to a room and graped or s- her. Even with her pleading he did not stop and blamed her for what was happening bc she decided to do that -

Yes, in Book 2, Riftan essentially sequesters Maxi in a room with him during a banquet and sexually assaults her for an entire week after Maxi intentionally provokes him with a revealing dress and dances with another man in front of him. She does in retaliation on Riftan for spending the entire first half of Book 2 ignoring and basically pushing Maxi away because she left him for 3 years to train as a mage—a decision that, mind you, was done in attempt to protect Riftan's livelihood and reputation from her father, who as we've seen in this recent chapter, was still seeking revenge for getting beaten by Riftan.
It's such a disgusting and upsetting moment to read through that I got secondhand aggravation from the anguish and conflicted emotions Maxi felt during the entire scene. It's lost on me how most readers found this erotic or sensual in any way.

horrible… and i thought this love story was gonna be full of riftan showing maxi the positive and romantic ways of life… not adding to maxi’s troubles and problems
i just hope the author doesn’t follow with the novel , i’ve been considering if i should continue or not since clearly the novel has scenes where it’s just disgust
