I'm the same, been reading it for 10 years and back in, I think either 2022 or 2023 it was at its peak story wise. Drama, progress but then suddenly.. Nothing. Chapters got shorter, Jian Yi and Xixi were almost completely cut off from the story, Mo and He Tian always go one step forward two steps backward and there's no updates.. I check Old Xians Weibo (Chinese Twitter) every so often and from what I see there, I feel like she's not interested in the comic/story anymore and as you said.. Kind of milks it for commercial reasons. Don't know if it's true but it feels that way.
I read this since I was 16 and now I’m 26. It’s been 10 fucking years! And zero progress in main (if I dare to name it) couple. And here is the thing that amazes me, second couple changed drastically, like it actually became almost a couple with physical mutual relationship, now they’re are gonna live together and also Mo shows how he feels from time to time. So it’s not Chinese censorship fault, it’s not queer baiting as core principle of entire story. It’s something I have no idea what. Like it’s definitely not slow burn cause it’s been 10 fucking years, there is no fire. Author/team refuses to make them a couple. I thought that way 5 years ago and nothing changed. Except I thought with time I’ll understand why, but nope. I thought maybe they wanna milk this stuff forever for profit , so they decided to stall progress to keep ending far away and keep readers involved. That’s what I thought 5 years ago. But no, second couple progressed naturally.
