I was in the same situation as them... when I was young I met my first boyfriend but he ended things with me abruptly because he wasn't sure about his feelings or our future together, and he felt scared of getting hurt... many years later we met again as adults and he assured me that he had changed for the better. On our 5th anniversary he proposed to me, only to end things one month later... he ripped my heart and my soul apart... It took me time to heal, but now I'm happy with my life (ノ≧∇≦)ノ
Shit I wanted to see them suffer a little more (or, a lot)...
