The fact that people still complain about Yayima being "too nonchalant" is honestly hilarious when he's the one doing 90% of the work in their relationship.
The reason they work so well is because they're both confident and cocky. But if you actually pay attention, Yayima is the one constantly planning dates and taking the initiative. He even took Torikai to his favorite restaurant a place he'd never taken anyone else before. Unlike his shitty ex, his ego doesn't stop him from celebrating Torikai's achievements. He's the one who made the first official date invitation, gave up his house key first, and is always asking about Torikai's past and the little things that matter to him. Most importantly, he never hesitates to show affection.
And the whole "he never said 'I love you' to the uke" argument feels especially weak now because we know that wouldn't have changed anything. Torikai (and I say this as someone who loves him) seems to enter relationships expecting them to end. Not IF they'll end, but WHEN. That's the kind of mindset that can kill a good thing before it even has the chance to grow.

It hurts to see Torikai's behavior because I feel so called out. I trust that the author will ket us see Torikai grow out of this pessimistic mindset.
