Wow...I hate saying I told you so, because who likes someone who comes off as a know-it-all, right? But I was right about Rosetta, but it's far worse than what I thought. To think Duke Croyso made his younger daughter watch his older daughter get beaten as a threat. I thought he did the beatings himself, but I guess not. Probably didn't want to bloody his robes, damn him. I thought Rosetta seemed cold, but it's far worse than that. She's emotionally dead. She's had to protect herself so severely that she can neither emote for others, nor for herself. She's stuck in that castle with her father, too. And who knows if the noble family she marries into is anywhere as kind or free as Riftan and Anatol?
That's why Maxi was able to blossom like she did, because despite their flaws, real love, kindness, compassion, justice, friendship, and freedom to express oneself was always there. I'm now far more worried for Rosetta than Maxi. She and Riftan still have a few hurdles, but they love each other and want to do right by each other. They'll get there. But who's in Rosetta's corner? Will she have anyone, even when married? Let's hope so.
