It has been the same for years now, as long as I remember. But now that I go through the top selection of mangas and manhwas it's just nothing to read when you want relaxation because everything is based on drama, r*pe and abuse. It's the same trope with every author, we even started having structurized arc's in most of the works, either chasing arc or separation arc or whatever just to justify the r*pe that has been put there for no reason ever?
Call me a wuss but I would never even look at the person who touches me the wrong way, let alone have kids with them and live comfortably in their presence (yes, I'm looking at you, "Wish you all the best")
I feel you deeply, comrade. there's an assumption that rape and sexual assault must be involved for conflict and smut for anything that's not the purest fluff (and even many of the otherwise fluffy stories will drop some assault in there). and so many series with art styles I'm into go all-in on rape and abuse. ┗( T﹏T )┛
part of it is convenience and convention to the point that people think "that's just part of the genre" but since when does that mean that we can't have any innovations?
is wanting stories with smut without rape so unreasonable and impossible of a demand to fulfill?
or, since it's not impossible to have a good story that features rape, let's have more stories like ouroboros! or is that too serious for people who just want to get off to abuse?

I started reading BL in 2012, even there it already has so much rape going on. I see that today it became more evident, but I think the more old we became the more perceptive we became for those things..

I know I'll get a lot of hate for this statement and I know some will always justify it by saying "Oh but it's just fiction", but I am so terrified by the amount of r*pe in mangas/manhwas nowadays.
Don't get me wrong. I was here before any of the peak works were made, long before we had new top list in the popularity filter. I. Am. Old. But I do still enjoy mangas/manhwas and I still find joy in BL or non-BL works. I was here before Killing Stalking was even born, I was watching it all.
But before having r*pe we had the plot implementation that could uncover new personality traits for the characters development or for the plot at least. But when has it become THE plot??? Why are we justifying pure r*pe that does not lead us to any plot development?
I am not saying authors shall put r*pe in their works only to level-up their characters. I have seen tons of works with NO abuse but still being peak, however, they never get that much light on them as the straight-up abuse stories. Take a look at the top list. What do we see? Mid story, non-con and tons of unjustified r*pe.
And don't start me with "Oh it is just a fiction" because believe it or not, we are getting coded the way we don't see it as much as a shocker now. The more we stay with such works, the more we get sort of Pavlovs dog scenario: we see r*pe - we comply.
It's almost the same as being at the war and being used to sirens. The outsider, who has never been in such surroundings, will be shocked and terrified. But you? You're getting used to it.
I am not saying we are being programmed or some other conspiracy bs, but we are definitely adapting to more abuse. For the generations that are screaming "No means no" yall just allow the stories that do not hear "No" be on top. It's not that I am disappointed in people who gave these stories such a highlight, we are people and we always bite the bitter and stronger visual triggers better (which is why a lot of people have fetishes, love watching horror stories and we always get intrigued by some gruesome news), it's more that I am disheartened to find a perfectly good artist who is probably a good person visually in daily life to come up with such cruel ideas to live through in their works, that it makes me question their sanity.
We all have deep dark secrets, but people who come up with new ways of abuse with every new chapter are just another level of hatred for me. You cannot convince me a good person would put their (and I'm probably sure of it( loved characters through that much pain to only get us literally NOWHERE in the story.
Remember these old retro videos of kids being interviewed by the psychiatrist and half of them used to be abused and developed an adaptation mechanism by being emotionally distant and half has lived in good families and showing their emotions openly? Same with us. We get adapted to the amount of abuse nowadays.
As heart broken as I am, I am dropping half of the works I've been following, some even for years. I know it doesn't change anything for the artist because it is an illegal platform and hey, we should just be grateful we have all these materials, right? But for my own sanity.
World is already a dirty place on the outside. I won't let the dirt to invade my thinking as well.
