you should read the novel. he is not a great character but i have fond opinions of him. he is a good boy.

I cant help but be fascinated with how differently he thinks and his own bizarre set of morals. He isn’t able to empathize the way others naturally do, he is stuck trying to use his own warped logic as a compass.
He truly thinks that he is a good person.

Like when he lied to his brother chase about the animal SA, he did it because he didn’t want his brother to die overdosing on meds to avoid intimacy. It was the “logical” thing to do. He doesn’t have the empathetic or emotional capacity to understand how traumatizing that would be, or that he could have tried to help in another way.
Even now, he is abiding by his moral compass and not interrupting a parents punishment, but trying to alleviate the pain of the punishment by adding companionship. As being alone in the dark is the worst part of this kind of punishment for a kid.
He is so fascinating to me…
