    From what we see in the first chapter… he literally freed all of them once he could. Doubt he had that ability when his father was alive, and he fought against the confederacy…. So I mean….

    I still think this storyline is so unnecessary and is not being done for a good cause I wouldn’t be surprised if in a few chapters we see some very derogatory words or that real issues are completely skipped over

    At this point, who knows. It’s one chapter with no backstory yet. I’m personally reserving most judgement till then.

    Or I guess there is his personal backstory of his whole family dying. But the reason for joining the war wasn’t touched on at this point

    I’m gonna try and give this the usual 20 chapter marinate and come back to it. It’s really early to say this will be done poorly or not. Could be a nice surprise if it’s done well, but from the little tiny bit of information we have so far, I can only assume the author is gonna sidestep slavery as much as they can seeing as they freed all the slaves and sent them away in chapter 1.
