We all know that this won't be a slave/master story but here y'all are bashing it and calling it racist. The blonde dude even set the other workers free, not intending to keep them as slaves and one sarcastic line from the ml got the story and author bashed. I’m honestly shocked by how fast people jumped to conclusions. Depicting a historical setting involving slavery is not the same as endorsing it. If we start treating every uncomfortable element of history as “forbidden,” then we can’t write historical fiction at all.And the argument that “a Korean woman shouldn’t write about the antebellum South” is not progressive, it’s gatekeeping. Since when are authors only allowed to write about their own ethnicity or their own country? By that, nobody should write fantasy, sci‑fi, historical fiction, or anything outside their personal experience.The line in question was clearly sarcastic, the blond character literally frees the workers, and the story has barely begun. Condemning the entire narrative, and the author, based on a single line taken out of context is unfair and intellectually lazy.If the story later mishandles the themes, then criticism will be valid. But attacking the premise before chapter one is even finished isn’t activism. It’s reactionary moral panic.
