i get how u feel ab this story being about highschoolers, i’d prefer if they were college aged as well. But the truth is, highschoolers fuck. the mother is saying if it was a girl this happened with it’d be easier for her to grasp. Either way theyre concerned bc why wouldnt they be, but that added layer of “ig this is how my son comes out?” is the main concern to her. Its yaoi logic mixed with a bit of real life logic. Realistically, if my teenage son walks in with a partner and asks to stay in their room for a week without any disturbance i can put two and two together.
The extra layer of it all is the whole omegaverse aspect of course. He ended up saying it as a command as well (the dont come near my room until I say so) so def deep down both parents sense smthn else they can't put a finger on, like it isn't JUST nishio who is experiencing strange symptoms lol. After he said that weird command the mom was esp like "wtf was that?" And like it's tearing her apart inside at first but she also can't bring herself to do anything else about it because of what she sensed + realistically she KNOWS her son wouldn't be the type to use excuses or suddenly ask for all that without an actual reason. It's like a cliffhanger on her part she gotta live with for now bc nothing's gonna get addressed well until the week is over . Like just imagine how embarrassed Nishio gonna be when he finally gotta come out of that room .
Also realistically in omegaverse, as soon as puberty/heats come they start taking suppressants and stuff to curb the symptoms and no weird shit happens >> even then half the time the stories are like "oops the meds not be doing jack"
Also, Don't forget, that this is a story about the beginning of Omegaverse. So meds are yet to be developed. And hierarchy still to be formed, if more humans are getting the same symptoms. For now they are the 1st, and trying to figuring out how to cope with it, and do research by themselves. That it was scary for them to trust others about it, without them being called crazy. TBH, they are coping and adapt with it quite well, for being high-schoolers. Usually in Omegaverse, Alphas, can go berserk after smelling an Omega in heet.
I do think that the themes tackled in this story is more on about a coming of age and figuring out your identity. Hence, the focus of the characters on what is "normal". The omegaverse was a tool used by the author to explore on this especially that this is the "beginning" of omegaverse in this world. They are not, per se, normal. But what is truly normal?
Psychologically, this exploration typically happens when we are exploring our roles and identities during teenage years or Adolescence.

At one point human life span was like 30-40 years. Women get their period at like age 13/14 most of the time. Exceptions are often getting it earlier than that, fucking rare for it to be later than like 15. Reproductive biology doesn't care about numbers or the planet. It's not gonna suddenly go "oh too many humans, long life span, let's make them fertile later," nah. Usually it only adds for the purpose of species survival. Realistically, there is no reasonable trigger for omegaverse to bother occurring LOL. However, considering low birth rate in Japan for example, Ig you never know . Evolution be like "time to make humans more animalistic" . Cuz truly the whole alpha/omega stuff is literally like a wolf-like mutation.

the more i read the more i feel iffy about how theyre young teens goin through this i kinda wish they were older like it makes sense for them to be young cuz puberty and this new omegaverse phenomenon but it is just so weird to see them fuck it out so passionately and intensely barely can hold back in the same household as their parents which is why i wish the mom reacted to this rather than it bein with a boy
