Words can't even begin to describe how disappointed I am. I was genuinely excited to read this because I loved Under the Green Light, but holy shit, this is horrible. The first mistake was choosing to make a BL set in this era. Then you decide to make it white man × slave? Was I supposed to be moved by the scene where the white-haired guy hands Black people money and tells them they're free? It just comes across as the same white savior narrative. And it doesnt help that East Asia has an ongoing issue with anti-Black racism. The story didn't even need this setting to function. The story could've literally just been cowboy × fallen noble and nothing of value would've been lost. If you disagree you're racist there's no in-between.
