Song of the...racist?.

JAXX, the author of Walk On Water, and Under the Green Light has officially released a new BL called Song of the Wasteland. I was super excited cuz it was a super cool cowboy yaoi! I love love love cowboys and American History, and yaoi, and I love it even more if it's all combined together!! As I was reading I was so excited to support the author (cuz I was reading on the official website and I was planning on buying chapters) but low and behold. The last panel....intro to the ML. You know what he does. He says "I'm your humble slave, master." He is a person of color....and the story is set after the civil war.... And the worst part is, people are defending this! "Oh Gerald fought for the Union", "yeah but other people owned slaves", "you're so sensitive." 1 Gerald was forced by his father to join the union, 2 yea others owned slaves, in other countries. This is set in the US, so we only talk about the US. Why are we acting like some fictional character fighting for the Union is the greatest thing anyone has ever done in US history, and why are we diminishing the horrors of slavery before the 13th Amendment. Slaves were tortured, abused, raped, sexually abused, mentally broken, used as livestock and crocodile bait, used as leather, cannibalized, and weren't even treated like humans and were treated as property. All because of the color of their skin and ethnicity. There are way more atrocities I can talk about but this would be way too long. There was one person saying only white people fought for abolishing slavery, and that is not true! I suggest researching about it cuz it is such an interesting (but heartbreaking) topic to learn about, and we need to be more mindful of certain jokes and phrases that could be offensive. Even if it doesn't affect us, it affects our past history and who we are. Racism is something people die to every year. And her this author decided to make such a racist remark. I am honestly considering dropping it, but let's see it if somewhat gets better....I hope. I will not be buying officials and I will be reading off here. But honestly I think it's better to boycott cuz then translators wouldn't pick it up and it won't have as much support (cuz most readers are illegal ones if u think about it). Well let me know in the comments about this topic, or not, it's ur life.

Yeah fair enough, I wouldn't pay for something that romanticised slavery either (I probably wouldn't have paid anyway, I love being a pirate lol)
I saw cover art on insta and thought wow this seems good and never thought of it again but im glad I didn't get too invested in it after seeing this comment!

so glad seeing this. it was genuinely baffling to see ppl who called that story out be labeled as sensitive and performative. i hope we're all wrong and jaxx will handle it with care but reading chap1, i have my doubts so i wont be following the story. i might take a peek at the comment sec once in a while to see if i was wrong (i highly doubt i'll go to manta bcs i can only count on few fingers how many story i did read legally-- ones that are well-written). i also think it's better to boycott it everywhere to serve as a reminder that heavy issues like racism, slavery and such should not be taken lightly bcs im scared for the future (trashy bl authors will take this opportunity to create something like it, and far worse)
