I mean you can read this story all you want, but tbh it’s harder for people with more awareness about historical and societal issues to read this “comfortably”. Racism exists in more subtle ways, beyond the outright discrimination and prejudice. I know you didn’t ask for a lesson or whatever but tbh you seem like the kind of person who believes they’re not racist but doesn’t do much internal reflection to support that… real antiracism and understanding of antiblackness requires a lot of deconstruction of certain beliefs, because racism exists at a systematic level. It affects all aspects of life, like societal, cultural, political, economic, historical… and the truth is, this story so far has proved to do no real understanding of black people + their suffering in history.
I just commented this and I ask again please explain:
1. The mc is from a the midwestern state, from Illinois, and fought for The Union for his family's legacy (probably not because they were against slavery but because they wanted to be winners). And mc finds his family legacy not something to be proud of).
2. The workers on the ranch are not slaves, the dirty racist southern agent assumed they were, but mc made it clear that they are not.
3. Even tho he lost his family and is under a lot if debts, he sold his state to pay the workers so that they can settle somewhere else without a problem.
4. The ml, the guy who said "my ranch" and called himself "your slave" (in a sarcastic way) is half Native American. And since he's half Native, what he said is on him, there is a chance that he wants to get revenge.
5. Absolutely no black person was depicted as evil or blamed or accused like some old Hollywood movies (there was also no false portrayal by the art style). I also saw that they were respected as equal and got paid for their work by the mc. The story is set after the civil war, so by law no one should be a slave to another.
Let's not forget depicting history is not racistic, so here's a question for people who say this story is full of racistic elements, please explain in details without using curse words to offend others why this manhwa is racist, explain like I'm five.
bruh….
1. Mc benefits from the slavery practices his family engaged in. Even though he fought for the union, it’s clear he only did it bc his dad wanted him to. This isn’t proof of his anti racism, he just does what he’s told and doesn’t think about his role outside of that.
2. He called them slaves and corrected himself after bc the truth is their status was only recently “changed”. The point is he still thinks of them as slaves but can’t call them that anymore bc the war was won.
3. Literally bare minimum reparations. Mc says go with be with your families or else it’ll be too late, but the irony is the mc’s family played their part in separating them to begin with. If anything, it’s giving I’m gonna solve a problem my people started in the first place… aka white savior complex.
4. This character represents the chance for mc to reflect on his and his family’s part in letting slavery go on for this long. Whether this topic will actually be addressed has yet to be seen bc only one chapter is out.
5. The point I was making in my original comment is that racism is not only overt… it can be subtle. You don’t need to be outright rude and violent to be racist… it exists in ignorance and silent beliefs…. Detecting history isn’t racist but the way in which the author goes about it shows her ignorance to the real life history and suffering of black people…….. that is why it is racist …….

I just got that the ml is half Native American, I'm gonna stay! If he wants to use the s word, who am I to judge? Don't black people use the n word?
And if he wants to fuck the mc who comes from a white supremacist white ass family who fought for Confederates, be my guest! Wreck his ass!
(edit: turns out he fought for the Union and he's from north which he mentioned himself)
I love indigenous people and there are not enough BLs with one of them in it!
Call me an uneducated bitch! I KNOW I hate racism against all races except white (cause you can't be racist against those in power), and I know black people's suffering and I'm wholeheartedly against it in real life. I don't care what y'all think, I know myself. So I'm gonna eat this fictional story. Save the historic facts and arguments for when I'm not on a pirate site reading stolen manhwas. Bye.
