I completely understand that, and I understand the anger, as it's a sensitive topic and many people might feel that way.
Since I'm not from the USA and know little about the history and time period in which the story takes place, I do understand that it's a sensitive topic, but I want to understand the anger. Is it because the story is set in that era? Is it because MC comes from a family that owned slaves? Is it because of the line the ML said about being a slave? I'm asking from a place of ignorance, not about the history or the events themselves, but about the feelings it evoke in others. I really want to understand where the anger comes from, and many of the comments are aggressive, like "racist bitch," without any other explanation, even though not much has happened in the story yet. We don't know anything about the characters; the only thing we know about MC is that he fought in the war, his entire family died, he sold everything, and he freed his slaves (and I'm not saying this in a "good thing, the white man freeing slaves" kind of way), but rather as the actions MC is taking before taking his own life. Is it ML's statement that, being biracial or of Native descent, he says he's his slave, that made people so angry? I genuinely want to understand what sparked so much hatred when we've only seen one episode and there hasn't been much interaction between the characters. Or is it simply that JAXX shouldn't have written about this part of the history?
I understand what you're saying, but could you explain where she went wrong with her research? Because so far we've only seen one episode and we don't know anything about the MC and ML, what kind of relationship they'll have, or what their dynamic will be like. Is it because of what ML said about being his slave? Please understand that I'm not justifying her; I simply want to understand your point of view
I totally agree with you, I think we should see how the story develops from this point onwards. I too know little about USA history and actually understand what is being said about inaccuracy regarding the slaves' conditions after being legally freed by the American government. From what I remember from history lessons, even though slaves were freed, they still faced discrimination and, in some cases, didn't have a family or a home to return to. Given this, I kind of understand why people were a bit taken back by how these slaves were sent away by the ML. Regarding the last scene, maybe it was a sarcastic line said by the other ML (I'm speculating since we don't know anything about him). Still, what I'm trying to say is people on the Internet should go a bit easier on the author since:
1. We know only 1% of the story so far;
2. I read JAXX other works and enjoyed them very much (and I'm someone with 0 tolerance for toxicity in relationships), and didn't strike me as a problematic author
3. Maybe the author isn't fully aware that their actions can be interpreted as insensitive since, as many people pointed out, they're not black, but Asian.
Another thing I thought of is that what JAXX wants to do is portray a love story, not write an essay about a historical period of time, so I think it's ok if it's not super accurate, since only an expert on the subject could reach that level (still I agree about informing oneself about the bases of the time period they want to portray).
I believe it's best to wait and see how the story develops and how the author will be able to insert romantic fiction in a very sensitive period of time without jumping immediatly to conclusions: let's just respect each other please

I understand it's a sensitive topic, and since it's written by a foreigner, there might be anger or doubt about how the subject will be handled. But it's only the first chapter; we've seen 1% of the story, and everyone's already yelling. No one's forcing you to read it, but why are you so upset? I understand it's a delicate subject and period in history, and mixing reality with fiction is a fine line that needs to be walked carefully.
But you're complaining about even the style of a native or biracial character's features when in other manhwas, 90% of the characters are Asian, especially Korean, and the art in most of them doesn't resemble Asian features, and I don't see any complaints about that.
Guys, it's fiction. I completely understand that the theme or setting of the story isn't to your liking, but don't read it. You're not even paying or giving money to the author.
